At Mira, we strive to design the most simple and cost-effective hardware minimizing mechanical complexity and production lead times. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will collaborate closely with the mechanical, electrical, software, and industrial design teams to help build the next generation of augmented reality hardware. Our development process is highly iterative and often requires low-volume production of prototypes for internal product testing. You will work hands on in CAD to develop simple and functional hardware for enterprise and industrial work environments designed to meet UL and ANSI hardware. Your responsibilities will also include engineering analysis and documentation for each project. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, responsive, flexible, and able to succeed within an open collaborative peer environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Create complex CAD models optimized for functionality within provided design constraints
  • Apply FEA and practical test procedures to validate concept prototypes and reduce design risk early
  • Perform constructive design reviews of hardware prototypes to identify failures
  • Identify design tradeoffs and risks to choose viable paths forward
  • Refine prototypes for DFM and DFA
  • Produce test plans to validate all hardware designs
  • Run tolerance studies to ensure designs are feasible for selected manufacturing processes
  • Drive processes that meet Mira’s cosmetic standards


Need to Have:

  • 4+ years of hands-on experience working as a mechanical engineer designing for a production environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant discipline
  • Mastery of CAD software, preferably Creo or Fusion360
  • Experience in development from concept through production
  • Exceptional engineering fundamentals and design intuition
  • Ability to learn new techniques and processes necessary to produce practical designs to meet the desired features and functionality
  • Strong ability in root cause analysis and corrective action planning
  • Working understanding of high-volume manufacturing systems
  • Develop OQC, IQC, handling, installation, inspection and failure criteria
  • Comfortable with GD&T
  • DFM and DFA experience
  • Experience with FEA
  • Excellent written and verbal skills, comfortable communicating with third-party vendors
  • Excellent process development and detailed documentation skills
  • Work collaboratively and constructively with team members
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, start-up environment


Nice to Have:

  • Experience developing AR or VR hardware technologies
  • Experience designing electro-mechanical and/or opto-mechanical components
  • Experience developing UL compliant hardware
  • Experience designing electronics enclosures for IP54 or higher
  • Experience developing ANSI compliant hardware
